How to Report a Missing Person

If someone you know is missing, the most important first step is to contact the proper authorities and keep information organized.

Share the flyer. Check the source. Avoid rumors.

Start with immediate safety

If there is immediate danger, call 911. You do not need to wait 24 hours if you believe someone is missing or in danger.

Gather important information

  • Full name and age
  • A recent clear photo
  • Last seen location
  • Last seen date and time if known
  • Clothing description
  • Vehicle details if applicable
  • Phone information and known recent activity
  • Medical or safety concerns

Ask for official case details

  • Investigating agency name
  • Case number if one is available
  • Preferred contact instructions for tips
  • What information can be shared publicly

Preserve information

Preserve texts, call logs, direct messages, recent posts, location clues, and any other recent activity. Do not edit or delete possible evidence.

Share responsibly

Use official or source-connected information. Do not post rumors, theories, accusations, or private details that have not been cleared for public release. Send information directly to law enforcement.
