Summary
Per law enforcement - Joey and his friend, Christopher Jedra (both of Detroit) were camping near South Point near Alpena, MI. Jedra's parents dropped them off on 9-3-83 with plans to pick them up the following day. When they arrived at the campsite, they found it intact but the boys were no where to be found. Extensive ground, water and air searches were conducted and on 9-19-83 Christopher Jedra's body was located 1/2 mile offshore of North Point. Joey Gutierrez has not been located. It is suspected that the boys attempted a swim to an offshore island and drown.
