Catharpin resident Walter Godbey pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter for his role in the 1995 slaying of his wife, Ann Marie Shaw. Godbey, who is currently serving 30 years for the murder of Washington AOL executive Douglass Small, was sentenced to 10 additional years in prison after the plea in Prince William County Circuit Court. Before his sentencing, Godbey told the court that Shaw's death was a "terrible tragedy" and that there isn't a day that goes by that he doesn't think about his former wife. Police had information that Shaw's body was dismembered and the torso of the body was buried in a wooded Fairfax park. However, a search for the body part was unsuccessful.
