James Guilford was found guilty of second degree murder and has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the February 2007 death of his girlfriend, Sharon Nugent. The sentence was handed down by Judge Joseph Fahey in Onondaga County Court. Nugent's body was never found, but a mattress soaked in her blood led to Guilford's arrest. Police said Guilford made incriminating statements about her disappearance. Prosecutors say James Guilford bludgeoned 26-year-old Sharon Nugent to death and then incinerated her body. Police found blood in the master bedroom of the home the couple shared and a bloodstained hammer. Sharon's remains have never been found.
