James BROATCH was witnessed surfing at a surf spot known as Phantoms in approximately 20 foot plus waves when he failed to exit the water. BROATCH's surfboard and wetsuit were recovered. An extensive search was conducted for BROATCH by the Honolulu Fire Department, and Honolulu Ocean Safety.
