Summary
On Monday, May 28, 2018, Mykhaylo Kozmich and two passengers left the North Pointe Marina in Winthrop Harbor (IL) on a fishing outing onto Lake Michigan. During the outing, Mykhaylo jumped overboard to retrieve a fishing rod that had fallen in. Mykhaylo did not have a life vest on, and a life buoy was tossed to him, but he slipped under the water before grabbing it. Mykhaylo was last seen wearing a blue short sleeve shirt and grey cargo shorts. Kozmich was believed to be in an area of Lake Michigan 10 to 17 miles from the shoreline at the time of the incident.
