On 12/06/1989, Vasily was last seen on the fishing vessel, Angara, when it overturned and sank near Shuyak Island in the Shelikof Strait (ten miles west of Eagle Cape). He is presumed to have drowned. The body of Ignaty Andreef was recovered. Vasily was never located during any of the search efforts.
