On Thursday 10/9/2008, Bruce Weaver and five companions were fishing aboard a vessel out of the Indian River Inlet in Rehoboth Beach, DE. The vessel became swamped by a wave near the Delaware Bay Buoy and it rapidly took on water. The vessel sunk beneath the surface causing Mr. Weaver and his companions to be cast into the water. Approximately eight hours later, the companions were rescued by a passing good samaritan vessel and the USCG. However, Mr. Weaver remained missing and despite a search encompassing nearly 474sq nautical miles (NM) over a 43hr period, his body was never recovered and he was declared lost at sea. This incident occurred approximately 5NM east of Indian River Inlet at Latitude 38°35.7 N Longitude 074°54.6 W.
