On 10/27/2000 at approximately 1330 hours, Helligar rented an airplane (Cessna 150, registration #N11214) from the Winter Haven Municipal Airport (Gilbert Field) and took off (flight) without providing a pilot's flight plan. At approximately 1400 hours, the aircraft was last detected by RADAR in the area west of Lake Jessie traveling at 25 Knots at an altitude of 1200 feet. An abrupt change of course for the aircraft was noted just prior to the loss of RADAR signal for the plane.
