On or about October 1, 1982, the Douglas Hotel, an extended stay hotel in downtown Elgin, Illinois where Wyteria had been staying for several months closed. A witness reportedly observed her with her luggage in the days leading up to the closure, likely in late September, and advised that she was en-route to Aurora on a bus. Her then-husband lived in Aurora. Another witness reported that Wyteria had planned to stay at the Joliet Motor Lodge rather than return home, but she never arrived there. Her husband reported her missing on January 29, 1983.
