Paul was attending CSU Hayward (CSUEB California State University, East Bay) prior to his disappearance and did not complete his studies at that time. He closed all of his bank accounts and did not provide a forwarding address to his landlord. Prior to his disappearance, he spoke to family members of possibly traveling to Cairo, Egypt on a religious mission. It was confirmed that he had entered Egypt sometime in 2001, but he has not been heard or seen since.
