Billie and Mary Lou Black drove away from their home on Pacific Street in Atchison, Kansas traveling south on Pacific Street in their light blue four door 1990 Honda Civic with Kansas license plate AWX-605. The couple never returned to their home and the couple and their vehicle were never located. Billie Black has severe diabetes and requires medication. He also has trouble walking due to his medical condition. A search of their home after they were reported missing showed that the lights were left on in the home and both their driver's licenses, a checkbook, cash and Billie Black’s diabetes medication were left in the home.
