On Thursday Jan. 12, 1981 Bill left Bald Head Island on a 12 foot canoe. Bill was setting up gill nets in the Frying Pan shoals area south of Bald Head Island when he was caught up in a storm. After 3 day of searching from the coast guard by boat and helicopter his body was never recovered. Businessman: Owner of Shuford Insurance agency. A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he played football. Bill was a member of the 1969 graduating Class of Concord High School, Concord, North Carolina. He was the class president. Bill was involved in all manner of sports at which he excelled.
