Stritzinger was last seen piloting his sail boat, the Kai Vai from Dana Point Harbor on the morning of 8/18/1982. On 8/24/1982, his family reporting Bruce missing and his boat had not returned to his slip in the Harbor. On 8/25/1982, the US Coast Guard was conducting a search about 5 miles off the coast of Dana Point on an unrelated incident when they came across debris attributed to the Kai Vai. Stritzinger's remains have never been recovered and it is believed they are lost at sea.
