On 08-01-1997 Whatcom County Deputies responded to south Lake Whatcom for a search and rescue. Donald MAYER had dove into the water to swim and never re-surfaced. Donald was boating with Richard Thompson and his son Anthony Thompson. Donald said he wanted to swim and they stopped the boat in the middle of the lake, near south bay. Donald jumped in and dove two or three times, not surfacing on the last time. Whatcom County SAR, water rescue, the fire department, and a dive team searched for Donald but were unable to locate him.
