On August 26, 2005, Michael Desmet was reportedly in Covelo, California with Joseph Wilma, Jr. (NamUs MP 85060) at a property owned by Wilma. Then, the two men were last seen driving a 1998 maroon Toyota pick-up truck; possibly in the China Creek area of Southern Humboldt County. Both men are missing.
