Howard's abandoned vehicle was located at the Soldotna landfill. A witness observed Howard leaving the area on foot and stated that he lost his keys and had to go to Seldovia. He was last seen on 08/07/1981 by a friend at the Anchorage Airport and his credit card was last used on 08/07/1981 in Kodiak. Howard has lived in the Becharof Lake area filming brown bears. There is no indication that Howard obtained transportation off the island.
